Benzoyl Peroxide is both an over-the-counter and a prescription medication and is used to treat mild to moderate acne.

Benzoyl peroxide belongs to a group of drugs called anti-acne preparations, which works by reducing acne-causing bacteria.  

This medication comes in liquid, gel, cream, lotion as well as in a bar and foam form. This product can be used once daily and can be incraesed to two to three times a day, if needed. 

Common side effects of benzoyl peroxide include dryness or peeling of skin, redness and burning of the skin.
