Mucinex is an over the counter medication used to relieve chest congestion in adults and children 12 years of age and older.

Mucinex belongs to a group of drugs called expectorants. These work by thinning the mucus in the air passages to make it easier to cough up the mucus and clear the airways.

This medication comes in tablet form and is taken every 12 hours with a full glass of water.

A common side effect of Mucinex is nausea.
