Prof. Emanuele Scafato, M.D.

Dr. Scafato is Senior Researcher, Gastroenterologist and Epidemiologist with the Istituto Superiore di Sanità (ISS - National Institute of Health) National Centre for Epidemiology, Surveillance and Health in Roma, Italy. He specializes in epidemiological research on alcohol use and abuse and alcohol-related problems.

He is Vice President of the European Federation of Addiction Societies and President of the Italian Society of Alcohology.

Dr. Scafato is Director of the World Health Organization Centre for Health Promotion and Research on Alcohol and Alcohol-related Health Problems at the ISS. He is also Director of the ISS Health Population’s Health and Health Determinants Unit and National Observatory on Alcohol.

The Istituto Superiore di Sanità is the leading technical and scientific public body of the Italian National Health Service. Its activities include research, control, training and consultation in the interest of public health protection.

Dr. Scafato's research efforts focus on health planning, health promotion and training activities relating to alcohol-related issues and ageing of populations at international, European, national and regional levels.
