Quzyttir is a prescription medication used for the treatment of acute urticaria (hives that occur for less than 6 weeks).

Quzyttir belongs to a group of drugs called antihistamines. It works by blocking the action of histamine, a substance in the body that causes allergic symptoms.

Quzyttir comes in an injectable form to be given directly into a vein, once every 24 hours.

Common side effects include headache, "pins and needles" sensation in the arms, hands, legs or feet, altered sense of taste, lightheadedness, indigestion, feeling hot, and excessive sweating. Quzyttir may cause drowsiness. Do not drive or operate heavy machinery until you know how this medication affects you.

Quzyttir Interactions

No drug interactions have been studied by the manufacturer.

Tell your doctor about all the medicines you take, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements. Be sure to mention any of the following: medications for depression, anxiety, mental illness, seizures, other medications for cold and allergy, sedatives, sleeping pills, tranquilizers, and theophylline (Theo-24, Theolair).

Quzyttir Precautions

This medication can cause drowsiness. Exercise caution when driving a car or operating potentially dangerous machinery.

Do not take Quzyttir:

  • if you are allergic to cetirizine or any other ingredient in this medication
  • if you are allergic to levocetirizine, or hydroxyzine

Quzyttir Food Interactions

Medications can interact with certain foods. In some cases, this may be harmful and your doctor may advise you to avoid certain foods. In the case of Quzyttir, there are no specific foods that you must exclude from your diet when receiving this medication.

Before taking Quzyttir, tell your doctor about all of your medical conditions. Especially tell your doctor if you:

  • are allergic to cetirizine or any other ingredients in this medication
  • have liver or kidney problems
  • are pregnant or plan to become pregnant
  • are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed

Tell your doctor about all the medicines you take including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.

Quzyttir and Pregnancy

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.

There are no well-done studies that have been done in humans with Quzyttir. In animal studies, pregnant animals were given an oral form of this medication and the babies did not show any medical issues related to this medication.

Quzyttir and Lactation

Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed.

Cetirizine hydrochloride, the active ingredient in Quzyttir, has been reported to be present in human breast milk. In mice and beagle dogs, studies indicated that cetirizine hydrochloride was excreted in milk. When a drug is present in animal milk, it is likely the drug will be present in human milk. Talk to your doctor about the potential risks to your breastfed child while weighing the potential benefits and risks associated with taking this medication.

Quzyttir Usage

Quzyttir comes in an injectable form to be given directly into a vein (IV) once every 24 hours as needed.

The injection usually only takes 1 to 2 minutes.

Quzyttir Dosage

The recommended dosage regimen is once every 24 hours as needed for treatment of acute urticaria. Quzyttir is given by injection into a vein (IV) over a period of 1 to 2 minutes.

Adults and adolescents 12 years of age and older: The recommended dosage is 10 mg.

Children 6 to 11 years of age: The recommended dosage is 5 mg or 10 mg depending on symptom severity.

Children 6 months to 5 years of age: The recommended dosage is 2.5 mg.

Quzyttir Overdose

Quzyttir is usually administered by a healthcare provider in a medical setting making it unlikely for an overdose to occur. However, if overdose is suspected, seek emergency medical attention.
