Zafirlukast is a prescription medication used to prevent asthma attacks. This medication belongs to a group of drugs called leukotriene receptor antagonists. It works by blocking the actions of leukotriene, a natural substance that causes swelling and tightening of the airways.

Zafirlukast comes in tablet form. It is usually taken twice daily on an empty stomach, 1 hour before, or 2 hours after a meal.
