Alavert is an over the counter medications used to temporarily relieve the symptoms of hay fever (allergy to pollen, dust, or other substances in the air) and other allergies in adults and children 2 years and older.

Alavert is in a class of medications called antihistamines. It works by blocking the action of histamine, a substance in the body that causes allergic symptoms.

This medication comes in syrup (liquid), an immediate acting and extended release tablet, and a rapidly disintegrating (dissolving) tablet and is taken daily without regard to food.

Common side effects of Alavert include headache and dry mouth.
