Dulcolax relieves occasional constipation and irregularity.
Dulcolax belongs to a group of drugs called stimulant laxatives. It works by increasing activity of the intestines to cause a bowel movement.
This medication comes in tablet form and is typically taken once a day as needed, with a full glass of water. Do not use Dulcolax within 1 hour after taking an antacid or milk.
Do not chew or crush tablet(s). Swallow tablets whole.
Dulcolax also comes as a suppository and is typically given once a day as needed.
Common side effects of Dulcolax include stomach discomfort, faintness and/or cramps.

Dulcolax Precautions
Stop use and ask a doctor if:
- you have rectal bleeding or fail to have a bowel movement after use of a laxative. These could be signs of a serious condition.
- you need to use a laxative for more than 1 week unless directed by a doctor
- no bowel movement within 30 minutes of enema use
Do not take/use Dulcolax if you:
- are allergic to Dulcolax or to any of its ingredients
- if you cannot swallow without chewing (tablets)
Inform MD
Before taking Dulcolax, tell your doctor about all of your medical conditions. Especially tell your doctor if you:
- are allergic to Dulcolax or to any of its ingredients
- have stomach pain, nausea or vomiting
- have a sudden change in bowel habits that lasts more than 2 weeks
- already used a laxative for more than 1 week
- are pregnant or breastfeeding
Tell your doctor about all the medicines you take including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
Dulcolax and Pregnancy
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant before using Dulcolax.
Dulcolax and Lactation
Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed before using Dulcolax.
Dulcolax Usage
Take Dulcolax exactly as directed.
Dulcolax comes in tablet and suppository form and is taken once a day as needed. Do NOT take/use Dulcolax tablets and/or suppository for longer than 1 week unless directed by a doctor.
Dulcolax tablets
Dulcolax tablets generally produces bowel movement in 6 to 12 hours
- do not chew or crush tablet(s)
- take with a glass of water
- do not use within 1 hour after taking an antacid or milk
Dulcolax suppository
Dulcolax suppository generally produces bowel movement in 15 minutes to 1 hour
- Detach one suppository from the strip and remove from foil
- Carefully insert one suppository well into the rectum
Dulcolax Overdose
In case of overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center right away.

Tablets:
- Store Dulcolax tablets at 25ºC (77ºF)
- Avoid excessive humidity
- Keep this and all medicines out of the reach of children.
Suppository:
- Store at room temperature: 15°- 30° C (59° - 86° F). Do not exceed 30° C (86° F)
- Individually sealed for your protection. Do not use if foil is torn or open
- Keep this and all medicines out of the reach of children.
