Esmolol is a prescription medication used to treat heart conditions. Esmolol belongs to a group of drugs called beta-blockers. These work by making the heart beat more slowly to help lower blood pressure.

This medication is available in an injectable form to be given directly into a vein (IV) by a healthcare professional.

Common side effects of esmolol include low blood pressure, nausea, and injection site pain.

Esmolol can also cause drowsiness and dizziness. Do not drive or operate heavy machinery until you know how esmolol affects you.
