Maalox is an over the counter medication used to relieve heartburn and acid indigestion in adults and children 12 years of age and older.

It is a single product containing 2 ingredients: aluminum hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide. These ingredients belong to a group of drugs called antacids. These work by neutralizing acid in the stomach.

This medication comes in tablets and suspension form and is taken 4 times a day as needed.

Common side effects of Maalox include nausea, constipation and diarrhea.
