Monistat is an over the counter medication used to treat vaginal yeast infections in adults and children 12 years of age and older. Monistat belongs to a group of drugs called antifungals. These work by stopping the growth of yeast (fungus) that causes the infection.

Common side effects of Monistat include itching, burning and irritation of the skin.
