Dr. Silverman, an attending rheumatologist at Cedars-Sinai Hospital, is internationally known for his work in fibromyalgia and osteoporosis. He is a clinical professor of medicine and rheumatology at UCLA. He has served as director of the fibromyalgia rehabilitation program in the department of physical medicine at Cedars. He is medical director of the OMC Clinical Research Center, a nonprofit research center.
Dr. Silverman has published more than 80 peer-reviewed articles in rheumatology, 20 book chapters and more than 100 abstracts. He is former chief of rheumatology at West Los Angeles VA Medical Center. Dr. Silverman lectures worldwide on fibromyalgia and osteoporosis. He has been awarded clinical research grants with special interests in measuring quality of life in patients with fibromyalgia and osteoporosis, in understanding patient adherence to therapies, understanding dysautonomia in fibromyalgia and the epidemiology of osteoporosis. He is medical director of a nonprofit clinical research center, the OMC Clinical Research Center. He is medical editor for the Epocrates web based Fibromyalgia Resource Center. He has served as medical editor for Fibromyalgia Aware, a national magazine for patients with Fibromyalgia. He serves on several editorial boards.
Dr. Silverman is board certified in rheumatology, internal medicine and allergy-immunology. Dr. Silverman is currently a member of the Scientific Advisory Council of the National Osteoporosis Foundation and is the ASBMR representative to the Interspecialty Medical Council of the National Osteoporosis Foundation. He serves on the Council of Scientific Advisors of the International Osteoporosis Foundation. He is a fellow of the American College of Rheumatology and American College of Physicians.
A graduate of Princeton University and Johns Hopkins Medical School, he completed his fellowship in rheumatology at Boston University Medical Center.
