Velphoro is a prescription medication used to lower serum phosphorus levels.

Velphoro belongs to a group of drugs called phosphate binders. These work by binding to phosphate in the body to pass it through the digestive system and eliminate the phosphate through the stool.

This medication comes in chewable tablet form and is taken typically 3 times daily with meals.

Chew Velphoro tablets. Do not swallow tablets whole. To aid with chewing and swallowing, tablets may be crushed.

Common side effects of Velphoro include discolored (dark) stools and diarrhea.
