Ranexa is a prescription medication used to treat chronic angina (ongoing chest pain). It belongs to a group of drugs called antianginals. The exact way it works is unknown. Ranexa is used to prevent angina attacks. It will not lessen an attack that has already begun.

Ranexa comes in an extended-release (long-acting) tablet. It is usually taken twice daily, with or without food. Ranexa tablets should be swallowed whole and not crushed, broken, or chewed.

Common side effects include nausea, constipation, and headache. Ranexa can cause dizziness. Do not drive or operate heavy machinery until you know how it affects you.
